Somerset Opera was founded in 1974 by Brian Cresswell. We are a registered charity and based in Taunton. We mount our own productions performed by our members and regularly welcome guests, who once they appear, often return. Somerset Opera supports young performers in a range of ways. In addition to its Young Performers Programme, Somerset Opera is delighted to support the Somerset Song Prize (SSP). The SSP is a biennial national singing competition for young people aged 18 to 26.
Somerset Opera holds rehearsals on Thursday evenings and we welcome enquiries from all voice registers.
We do hold auditions and these are arranged with the musical director.
Somerset Opera's spring production is usually a tour, performing in village halls, churches and theatres around Somerset.
